The UConn Steel Pan Ensemble, in collaboration with Guest Artist Francis Callwood and Abraham Rodriquez Jr., will perform an evening of music spanning multiple genres. Dr. Robert Stephens, UConn Professor of Music, will be performing as well. General Admission is$10 with students and children free. Von der Mehden Recital Hall is located at 875 Coventry Road Storrs. There is plenty of free well-lit parking across the street.

The UConn Choir Club, in collaboration with several Guest Artists, will perform an evening of soulful harmony. Rev. Lisa Clayton, UConn Associate Professor and Director of Voices of Freedom Gospel Choir, will be directing. von der Mehden Recital Hall is located at 875 Coventry Rd. across from Mirror Lake on the UConn Storrs campus. Admission is free and there is plenty of free well-lit parking across the street.

UConn Department of Music presents – Operatic Rulers and Royalty: A Lecture Recital

STORRS, CT.   UConn Department of Music presents a collaborative lecture recital: “Operatic Rulers and Royalty” on Sunday, November 8th at 5:00pm at von der Mehden Recital Hall at the University of Connecticut Storrs Campus.

UCONN’s own Dr Glenn Stanley will give an introduction and provide commentary, Assistant Professor Rod Nelman (Bass-Baritone) and Guest Artist Anna Vikre (Soprano) will sing with Dr. David Ballena at the piano. They will perform arias by Wagner, Bellini, Verdi, and Donizetti.  The program will end with Gershwin’s duet “Bess you is my woman now” from Porgy and Bess.

Dr. Stanley, a historical musicologist has lectured at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall and has organized conferences at Carnegie Hall. Dr. Ballena has performed throughout the U.S. and South America in concerts at some of the nation’s most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Rod Nelman and Anna Vikre met while singing with the Florida Grand Opera. They were actually married on stage during a production of “The Marriage of Figaro” before they were legally married. They have performed together in concert and opera around the world in major venues from China to Spain to France and all across the U.S. including Avery Fischer Hall Lincoln Center, Long Beach Opera, and Florida Grand Opera.

The recital will take place Sunday, November 8th at 5:00pm at von der Mehden Recital Hall on the UConn Storrs Campus. Admission for this event is free. Free parking will also be available in the lot immediately adjacent to von der Mehden. We hope to see you there!
